CUXPORT: RELIABLY HANDLING CUSTOMS PROCESSES WITH EDBIC
High level of automation ensures that goods can be handled quickly and correctly in accordance with customs requirements
“For us, automating the customs process with edbic has been an incredibly important advancement that has kept us operational. It simply wouldn’t have worked in a manual set-up. So, it was extremely important that we could solve this problem. The colleagues of HPC and compacer did a super job, together with our own team.”
The project at a glance
The challengeSince its opening in 1997, Cuxport seaport terminal has been serving the majority of EU member states with goods – with customs processes playing hardly any role until 2021. After the British left the European Customs Union, Cuxport suddenly required customs processes for 80 % of the freight. Brexit thus completely overturned Cuxport’s processes literally overnight. Whereas we could handle customs processes manually in the past, this is no longer an option.
The solutionThe solution lay in standardising, automating and digitalising processes. For this, up to five different systems and their data had to be consolidated. The data hub edbic, which guarantees reliability in electronic data exchange (EDI), captures, merges and transfers all required data to the customs software. This enables a reliable and correct customs clearance, regardless of the volume of goods to be cleared.
The resultIntroducing edbic makes it possible, for the first time, to centrally consolidate all data relevant to the customs process and to reliably exchange it with the ATLAS customs system via Dakosy, in one continuous and traceable process. This process can be implemented regardless of the number of pending customs operations. All steps are traceable and shipowners also benefit from the new access to real-time data about their cargo.
“The whole project was under extreme time pressure, and the more intensively we got involved, the more special cases popped up. But in close exchange with compacer, we could map these as well and successfully integrate them into the digital process.”
